In the Orthodox Church, we have prescribed scripture readings for each day. This Sunday’s Gospel lesson was on the Parable of Lazarus and the Rich Man. You know the story. Lazarus is destitute and neglected and the un-named rich man has all sorts of comfort. They both die and Lazarus is in Heaven, while the rich man is paying the price for his greed. There’s nothing wrong with having wealth, but there is everything wrong with being greedy and neglecting or exploiting your fellow man or woman.
