In what could be the setting for a gripping thriller novel, Cuba and the United States are reportedly locked in a standoff this weekend, with the fate of an American contractor, Alan Gross, hanging in the balance as purported negotiations go forwards for a swap of 5 Cubans imprisoned in the U.S. for Mr. Gross.
