Someone Burned A Cross In MLK’s Front Yard And This Is What Happened Next

Martin Luther King burning cross

I don’t know how I’d react if it happened to me. I’d be angry, maybe want revenge.

Martin Luther King, Jr. didn’t react that way, however. He donned his suit, handled the situation with grace and dignity, and his son came out with him.

It is fitting that we recognize such a great man with a holiday every year.

I had a cross burnt in my front yard in 1991. The first reaction is deep seated anger. But the the same anger dissipated very quickly when I asked myself why would someone hate me and my skin color so much to do this. The answer became very apparent… cowards all… what I was doing was the “right thing” if it spurs all this hatred….

My brother had a cross burned in his front yard many years ago when he lived in Arkansas. He filmed it so he could show it at every family gathering after he returned to NY because he was insufferably proud of himself. Finally got him to shut up about it when I was working in Alabama for several years and had it happen to me. Third sibling is thinking of moving out of NY for a few years to a “likely” state. We are a very competitive family ;)
