What is has long been a public health problem – that of making women want to be thinner and thinner, even if it means death by anorexia – is something that we must all be conscious of, and fight against every day.

Let's pump up her breasts, reduce her hips and thighs to that of a prepubescent male and feed that to the masses, screwing up the perception of what it means to be a woman for both young girls [who will be doomed to trying to pursue an impossible body shape] and young boys [who will be misguided into looking for a woman who doesn't exist! That's not the figure of a grown woman, that's an alien. Kudos to Ms. Winslet for calling out the myth.

Many young women in the psych wards I worked in refused some bipolar meds because they tend to encourage weight gain. They would rather suffer with mania or depression than gain pounds, and become generally unable to function or work. Hard to beat the image created by the ads, mags, and media, and, of course, the approval of the not very enlightened spouses, boyfriends, etc. who tend to reenforce it. "I'd rather be crazy than fat" she said after her third suicide attempt. "Of course I throw up regularly. It keeps the fat off".

Because everyone knows that there is nothing worse than being fat. If you're over a size 0, you're fat. And if you are plus sized, like I am, it's a sin and I am evil for letting myself get that way. Am I right? Haters going to hate, and they hate fat people. But they are the ones that are ugly inside. People have sympathy for anorexics, maybe they don't realize that anorexia is dangerous too. Every woman has a right to feel confident about her body but with these ridiculous Hollywood standards, some of them end up and life or death situations. Yes, I a fat, but I am physically healthy and accept my body the way that it is. Do I want to lose weight? Yes, but for myself, not for all those people who hate me because I'm fat.

Actually this look is designed by homosexual designers wanting to make the women look like young boys. Notice they are thin and have no breasts. Years ago they wanted the heroin look, with the pale skin. The perverts are perverting us. For the eye that alters, alters all.

We need to do something to keep this narrow and unrealistic beauty ideal from getting narrower -- and stronger. It's hard to think what, though, other than raising awareness; it'd be difficult to regulate this sort of editing without going against free speech. Thank you, Kate Winslet, for calling GQ out on this.

Because the two problems are actually the same problem, just different reactions to it. One group of women who want the societal power of the ad image go to anorexia, another group goes to food comfort and obesity when confronted with the unattainable.
