$1 billion wasted on Air Force computer system
The Expeditionary Combat Support System, designed to save money by combining hundreds of existing computer system, has been deemed a failure. Sen. John McCain described it as ‘one of the most egregious examples of mismanagement in recent memory.

They start out not knowing what they actually want, change the goal repeatedly, then are surprised when it doesn’t work… because the whole program is so f***ed up. Government agencies should have someone knowledgeable outside the agency write the specifications for the program and monitor it for appropriateness… and it should be a fixed price contract, not a cost plus contract… both for the spec writer AND the entire program.
