Hadiya Pendleton performed at President Obama’s inauguration in January. Just a week later, she was shot and killed in Chicago. Her mother, Cleopatra Cowley-Pendleton, demands action from Congress to end gun violence.
“When my daughter Hadiya performed at the president’s inauguration, it was the happiest day of her life,” said Cowley-Pendelton in a public service announced released by Mayors Against Illegal Guns. “A week later, she was murdered, gunned down near her school. A piece of my heart is gone.”
Many are confusing the proposed gun legislation with gun confiscation. With the implementation of comprehensive background checks and banning the purchase of new assault weapons, we can reduce the very real problem of gun violence in America.
