Oregon Soldier Saves Cat From Afghanistan (VIDEO)

WBTV.com On Your SideWBTV in Oregon is running a heartwarming story about an Oregon soldier who took extraordinary steps to rescue a cat from Afghanistan.

Staff Sgt. Jesse Knott took in the stray cat, Koshka (cat in Russian) while serving in Afghanistan and after the death of two of his fellow soldiers decided to rescue the cat.

To get Koshka to the USA involved having a local interpreter take the cat with him to Kabul, at great peril as the Taliban kill anyone the find doing a favor for Americans.  As Sgt. Knott explains in the video below, this involved taking a cat in a bright purple collar in a carrier manufactured in the USA halfway across Afghanistan through numerous Taliban checkpoints – a trip that took weeks.  From there, Sgt. Knott’s parents paid $3,000 to have the cat flown from Kabul to Islamabad, Pakistan, then to New York and finally to Oregon.

“He was my saving grace,” Sgt. Knotts related. “He kept me alive during that tour.”
