A 16-year-old Fort Myers, Florida, high school student has been suspended for three days after he wrestled a loaded revolver from another student threatening to shoot.
The student told local news station WFTX-TV that there was “no doubt” he saved a life by disarming the 15 year-old gunman who had been aiming the .22 caliber RG-14 gun at another student point blank on a school bus.
“I think he was really going to shoot him right then and there,” the student said. “Not taking no pity.”
“No doubt,” he went on, “he was going to shoot him point blank.”
School official refused release any details surrounding their decision to suspend the apparent hero, citing privacy issues and his age, but district spokesman Alberto Rodriguez noted in a statement that “If there is a potentially dangerous situation, Florida law allows the principle to suspend a ‘student immediately pending a hearing.’”
Fact 1: There was a gun on the school bus. Fact 2: There was a scuffle. Until we adjudicate those two facts, we don’t know who had the gun to start with and who did what to whom. Yes, lets wait until due process is followed before we go off half cocked.
