New Jersey Governor Chris Christie vowed to build a protective system of dunes along the Jersey shoreline to help protect against future huricanes at a town hall meeting this Tuesday.
Christie told the crowd of several hundred, in Long Beach Township, that no one would stand in his way in spite of the fact that more than 80 homeowners have refused to sign easements allowing to project to move forwards, citing concerns over alleged improvements to include boardwalks and the like.
Christie announced at the meeting that the deadline to agree to the easement is “today” and said if there were any holdouts, it wouldn’t matter moving forwards.
“We are building these dunes, okay? We are building these dunes whether you consent or not.”
Amid cheers, and after warning people to cover their children’s ears, Christie added:
“Let me use an indelicate word. “Bullshit. That’s what that is … That’s the excuse they use. Here’s why they’re really concerned: They don’t want their view blocked.”
