It was a great night in Austin, Texas – and a wonderful display of democracy as Senator Wendy Davis staged a 12-hour filibuster. Women’s rights organization and hundreds of supporters, present stood their ground and roared their objections to one of the most restrictive anti-choice bills in the history of Texas. The bill was shot down and they won.
Sadly our democracy allows for f-ckheads like Governor Rick Perry to overrule and ignore the voice of the people. Perry called for a second session, which means this process will start again next week. I imagine this time, Perry will see a display of democracy never witnessed in Texas before. Women’s rights organizations like UniteWomen.org are already preparing for a massive protest next week, July 1.
