Two Jasper Policemen Fired After Brutally Beating Woman (VIDEO)

Jasper, Texas – Two police officers were fired after security cameras captured video of the men brutally beating a woman and slamming her head into a countertop.

“The amount of force used was abominable,” the woman’s attorney, Cade Bernsen, told Yahoo News.

Keyarika “Shea” Diggles, 25, was brought to the jail on May 5 for an unpaid fine, according to Bernsen. He said she was on the phone with her mother trying to arrange to get the $100 owed when Officer Ricky Grissom cut off the call.

The video doesn’t provide audio but it is clear that Diggles is not making any trouble. As she moves away from the phone, it appears the two are having an argument.

Officer Ryan Cunningham comes in behind Diggles and attempts to handcuff her. When she appears to raise her hand, Cunningham grabs Diggles by the hair and slams her head into a countertop. The officers wrestle Diggles to the ground before dragging her by her ankles into a jail cell.

“She got her hair pulled out, broke a tooth, braces got knocked off … it was brutal,” Bernsen said. Diggles was charged with resisting arrest for arguing with the officers, a charge dropped the following Monday, according to Bernsen.

“Adding insult to injury, after they brutally beat this woman and left her in a jail cell for hours, to cover their tracks in my opinion, they filed resisting arrest charges against her,” said Bernsen.

“I haven’t been able to sleep,” said Diggles. “I have anxiety, and I’m just scared.”

“To see that video in the police station of my little town was sickening,” said Jasper Mayor Mike Lout.

In a special session, the city council unanimously voted to terminate both officers, and it’s asking the district attorney’s office to consider criminal charges.

The action comes just days before the fifteenth anniversary of James Byrd Jr.’s death, after being dragged behind a pickup truck and decapitated in Jasper County.

“Nothing has changed,” said Diggles. “It’s still the same.”
