Radio Insider On Rush Limbaugh And Hate Radio – ‘It’s Over’

The The Daily Beast recently interviewed several radio industry members to get their take on what’s happening. Here are two insiders, whose views seem to be more aligned with the protest movement, against Limbaugh and hate radio.

Jerry Del Colliano, publisher of the radio-industry tip sheet Inside Music Media made these comments:

“Rush Limbaugh’s contract will never be renewed at that kind of money again—if he gets another contract,” says Del Colliano. “There are no people coming up. Gen X doesn’t care about it. Gen Y absolutely is way beyond it. Even if Rush didn’t open his big mouth [over Fluke], he still would be in trouble because the demographics are so old that you can’t sell them to the advertisers.  It’s over…I think the talk show hosts know it, too.”

Michael Harrison, publisher of Talkers magazine added:

“My personal prediction, based upon what I know of the industry, is that it’s going to happen. But I would never call you or call Politico or write in Talkers that it’s a fait accompli, because it’s not.” Harrison points that Limbaugh and Hannity technically work for the radio conglomerate Clear Channel; their shows are syndicated to Cumulus stations. “Cumulus is basically saying—if in fact it’s true that they’re going to do this—that they don’t want to be in the business of selling that type of controversial political talk,” he says.

These experts forgot to mention the incredible work being done by grassroots anti-Limbaugh groups like  BoycottRushLimbaugh Facebook Group, FlushRush, StopRush and the American public, who have managed get thousands of Limbaugh sponsors to pull advertising from his show, one company at a time. The groups do this by way of directly contacting companies, petitions, twitter bombs, boycotts…  The people are causing this shake-up, and they are doing it with their voices and their greatest weapon – their crazy American dollars which they can place with whomever, and whichever company, they please. Hundreds of thousands of consumers have vowed not to buy from companies that support Limbaugh and hate speech.

And it’s not only sponsors the protestors are going after. There is now ‘talk’ in some groups, of calling a nationwide listening strike for all Cumulus and Clear Channel radio stations – until Rush Limbaugh is gone. The people are getting more impatient by the day, I’d say.

Our public radio network was created to give voice to the American people. It was not created to be used by hate-mongers like Limbaugh, who make millions promoting lies, racism, and sexism and lgbt-hating bigotry. To join in the protest against Rush Limbaugh, here are a few ways:
