Trayvon Martin Protesters Clash with Police

Reports are flowing in that protesters are clashing with police in nationwide demonstrations.

LAPD Commander Andrew Smith told NBC4 Southern California that “Los Angeles Police Department officers fired bean bags at protesters after some people threw objects at officers.”

KTVU from Oakland, Calif. is reporting that  one of the station’s cameramen has been attacked by masked protesters:

Thirty minutes ago, KTVU reported that police have now declared the protests illegal in Oakland:

There are reports of police using rubber bullets on protesters in L.A. as protesters shut down city streets and the 10 freeway and Huffington Post is reporting
there have also been reports of bottles being thrown at police officers.

The LA Times reported that protestors threw batteries and rocks at LAPD near the corner of Washington Boulevard and 10th Avenue. KNBC spoke to protesters who claimed rubber bullets were used against them and Cannick has been tweeting about use of rubber bullets. Shortly after midnight on Sunday morning, KNX1070 reporter Claudia Peschiutta said she was hit by a rubber bullet. LAPD has yet to confirm what type of non-lethal rounds were used, but both the Times and KNBC have reported the use of bean bags.

On the East Coast, there are reports that the New York Trayvon Martin rally “appeared to be heating up a few moments ago, with audible shouts of ‘film the police!’ and ‘take out your phones!'” Further a live stream out of New York City reports that at least three have been arrested during the protests, and a device called an LRAD is said to have been spotted with NYPD on scene. (The Long Range Acoustic Device (LRAD) is an acoustic hailing device and sonic weapon developed by LRAD Corporation to send messages, warnings, and harmful, pain inducing tones over longer distances than normal loudspeakers.)

Protests were also held in other major cities, including Chicago, New York, San Francisco, San Jose and Oakland on Sunday.

TheBlaze radio’s Doc Thompson and his producer Skip LaCombe uploaded videos from the rally in Times Square (Strong language in some clips):
