Ex-San Diego Mayor Filner Pleads Guilty

Ex-San Diego Mayor Filner Pleads GuiltyFormer San Diego Mayor Bob Filner pleaded guilty to felony false imprisonment and two misdemeanor counts of battery.

The plea was entered in California State Superior Court Tuesday, weeks after Filner was forced to resign over claims of sexual harassment by numerous women.

State Attorney General Kamala Harris released a statement noting:

“This conduct was not only criminal, it was also an extreme abuse of power. This prosecution is about consequence and accountability.”

The former mayor will be placed in “home confinement” for three months followed by a term of probation of three years under the terms of the plea agreement.  He will also be barred from public office, will have to undergo treatment and will be forced to surrender a portion of his government pension.

His fines and fees will be determined at his formal sentencing hearing which is scheduled for December 9.
