No, not all law enforcers are like this. In fact, the majority of police officers do serve and protect. And they are needed.
This video compilation contains acts of police brutality around the country, and these officers are far beyond reproach. The violence and abuse of power should be grounds not only for dismissal – these officers should be arrested, convicted, and sentenced. There are too many videos like this. Regardless of the crimes of the guilty/not guilty, the offenses by some of the officers are that of terrorists. In some clips, they are like a pack of frenzied animal. This is illegal, and it must stop.
The most disturbing aspect of this story is, in most of these scenes, the officers are aware there are cameras. What goes on when the chance of being video-taped is non-existent? How many victims are afraid to come forward after such an attack … if they survive. We see a reporter intimidated and then man-handled for trying to do his job. Perhaps this is why cell phones are being used more often. A phone is more handy and inconspicuous. Still, citizens are very hesitant to tape these crimes or get involved, for fear of repercussions.
What can we do? Awareness is the first step. Share this video (or others like it) with friends and lawmakers. Email the videos to members of Congress. Tell them that you want laws to better protect citizens. Americans should not have to live in fear. With elections coming up this year, there’s a fair chance politicians will move faster than usual.Check out various citizen advocacy sites, that contain information about police brutality.
“If the system turns away from the abuses inflicted on the guilty, then who can be next but the innocents?” ~Michael Connelly
Here is a List of Congress members. The change must start with us, the people, by making our voices heard loud and clear.
