“A Fighting Chance” author Elizabeth Warren discusses the erosion of America’s middle class and makes the case for tougher regulation of the banking industry.
Playing the Devil’s Advocate, Colbert argued on the one hand that banks turn a profit for America while the middle-class cost the country money because they don’t pay their bills (i.e. their mortgage payments).
When Warren directly accused Wall Street banks of cheating people, Colbert shot back by accusing her of supporting “freeloaders” who don’t pay their bills. “It’s just more socialism!” he said.
Warren shot back: “You’re right that there’s been a lot of freeloading, but the freeloading has been by the biggest financial institutions who got bailed out by the American taxpayers.”
