The GOP’s Top 10 Craziest Climate Change Deniers

Science-Denial

There are still people (most are Republicans) who refuse to acknowledge the science that links climate change to human-driven global warming.

Here are 10 of their craziest quotes:

1 – Michele Bachmann (R- MN) – “[Pelosi] is committed to her global warming fanaticism to the point where she has said that she’s just trying to save the planet. We all know that someone did that over 2,000 years ago, they saved the planet — we didn’t need Nancy Pelosi to do that.” SOURCE

2 – Rep. Joe L. Barton (R – TX) – You may remember Barton as the politician who apologized to the head of BP in 2010 after the government dared to insist that the company pay for those whose livelihoods were ruined by the gulf oil spill. Barton cited the Almighty in questioning energy from wind turbines. Careful, he warned, “wind is God’s way of balancing heat.” Clean energy, he said, “would slow the winds down” and thus could make it hotter. You never know.
“You can’t regulate God!” Barton barked at the House speaker, Nancy Pelosi, in the midst of discussion on measures to curb global warming. He also said, “When it’s hot, we get shade.” in response to questions in a hearing on adapting to climate change. SOURCE

3 – Glenn Beck (R- Radio) – “I’m trying to think where else this has been done – Soviet Russia, Nazi, Germany, Mussolini’s Italy,” Beck said. “In fact, the Nazis took an extra step. Not only did they indoctrinate the kids and tell them you’re probably right, you know but your parents don’t; in fact, here’s the next step: Why don’t you tell us what your parents are telling you. Are we having the new Hitler youth? Is that what this is? The new Hitler youth? I’m sorry, that’s so politically incorrect – the new green guard. Man your station, 12-year-olds, your parents just don’t know. Al Gore’s not going to be rounding up Jews and exterminating them. It is the same tactic, however. The goal is different. The goal is globalization… and you must silence all dissenting voices. That’s what Hitler did. That’s what Al Gore, the U.N., and everybody on the global warming bandwagon [are doing].” SOURCE

4 – Sen. James Inhofe (R – OK) – Sen. James Inhofe may be one of several Republican senators who don’t believe in global warming, but this he is particularly vocal about his beliefs. In February 2013, his family built an igloo near the U.S. Capitol and labeled it “Al Gore’s new home.”

In a speech to the U.S. Senate in 2003, Inhofe said, “With all of the hysteria, all of the fear, all of the phony science, could it be that man-made global warming is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people? It sure sounds like it.” SOURCE

5 – Sarah Palin (R – AK) – “These global warming studies [are] a bunch of snake oil science.” at a logging conference. SOURCE

6 – Rick Perry (R – TX) – “I do believe that the issue of global warming has been politicized. I think there are a substantial number of scientists who have manipulated data so that they will have dollars rolling into their projects. I think we’re seeing it almost weekly or even daily, scientists who are coming forward and questioning the original idea that man-made global warming is what is causing the climate to change. Yes, our climates change. They’ve been changing ever since the earth was formed.” SOURCE

7 – Dana Rohrabacher (R- CA) – “We don’t know what those other cycles were caused by in the past. Could be dinosaur flatulence, you know, or who knows?” SOURCE

8 – Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) – Ryan has accused scientists of engaging in conspiracy to “intentionally mislead the public on the issue of climate change.” He has implied that snow invalidates global warming. SOURCE

9 – John Shimkus (R – IL) – At a 2009 hearing, Shimkus said not to worry about a fatally dyspeptic planet: the biblical signs have yet to properly align. “The earth will end only when God declares it to be over,” he said, and then he went on to quote Genesis at some length. SOURCE

10 – Donald Trump – Back in 2010, business magnate Donald Trump, cited snow, a popular argument for climate change critics, as proof that global warming is a myth.

“With the coldest winter ever recorded, with snow setting record levels up and down the coast, the Nobel committee should take the Nobel Prize back from Al Gore,” the tycoon told members of his Trump National Golf Club. SOURCE
