So it looks like one of our favorite bat-shit crazy “Christian” preachers is making news again for his unbelievable hate speech. I’m talking about Steven Anderson, who preaches at a Baptist church in Tempe, Arizona. You might remember him from his recent sermons calling for the death of President Obama.
Well this time he is calling for the murder of all gays. Yes, you read that right. He claims that he can make the planet an “AIDS-fee world by Christmas” simply by killing off all of the gays and transgendered people. And he quotes scripture to support this radical idea.
Now my first thought when I saw the video of him preaching this unbelievable sermon was that I’m thankful that he is the only “Christian” nut job out there who actually believes that gays deserve to die. But oh, how wrong I was. To my shock, there are actually many whack-a-doo preachers out there calling for this very thing. And they are using the Bible to justify their beliefs.
The Bible passage that they most like to quote is from Leviticus 20:13.
“If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.”
Steven Anderson, just like the rest of preachers I have included, reads this passage proudly before he goes on to explain to the congregation exactly what it means. Anderson says,
“And that, my friend, is the cure for AIDS. It was right there in the Bible all along…and they’re out spending billions of dollars in research and testing. It’s curable. Right there. Because if you executed the homos like God recommends, you wouldn’t have all this AIDS running rampant.”
And he goes on to say,
“No homos will ever be allowed in this church as long as I am pastor here. NEVER! Say ‘You’re crazy.’ No! You’re crazy if you think that there’s something wrong with my ‘no homo’ policy.”
And here’s another “Christian” pastor who is also calling for the death of all gays. Meet Curtis Knap. He is the pastor at the New Hope Baptist Church in Seneca, Kansas. And he too believes that it is God and the Bible who directly say that all gays deserve to be murdered.
And here’s yet another….This is Sean Harris who is the pastor at Berean Baptist Church in Fayetteville, North Carolina. This hate monger not only believes that the Bible says gays should be put to death, but he actually tells his congregation that they should aggressively and physically attack their own children if they show any signs of homosexuality. He says that parents should literally punch any gay-acting child or break their wrists.
And while these preachers across the country are spreading their hatred and political views, there are congregations full of people just soaking it all in. One of those congregation members is Republican politician Scott Esk. He is from Oklahoma and he is openly telling anyone who will listen that all gays must be executed by stoning. He claims that if we do not kill off all of the homosexuals in this country that God’s wrath will be upon us.
What is even more disturbing is that these churches are not only spreading their hate-filled rhetoric to the adults in the congregation, but they are also teaching these things to the children. This is pastor Jeff Sangl from the Apostolic Truth Tabernacle. In this video he is cheering on a child from his flock while he sings “Aint no homos going to make it to heaven.”
Now listen, I am certainly not condemning all Christians for the beliefs of these kind of nut jobs. As a matter of fact I don’t view these beliefs as Christian at all. But it is frightening that all over this country sermons like this are being taught to people who take every word of it as the gospel truth.
