Rick Perry: ‘Running for the presidency’s not an IQ test’

Rick-Perry

Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) claimed that life experience is more important than “book smarts” during a recent interview with NBC News.

Running for the presidency’s not an IQ test. It is a test of an individual’s resolve.

Perry also told NBC that he has a real shot at winning the presidency in 2016, that he’s not the same candidate he was during the 2012 Republican primaries statingĀ  “I think, over the course of the last two years, people realize that what they saw in 2011 is certainly not the person they’re looking at at 2013, 2014, 2015,” conceding, however, that he probably has less “margin for error” after he famously couldn’t remember one of the federal agencies he said he’d ax during a November 2011 Republican debate.

In the interview, conducted at the Governor’s Mansion, Perry said that:

Running for the presidency’s not an IQ test. It is a test of an individual’s resolve. It’s a test of an individual’s philosophy. It’s a test of an individual’s life’s experiences. And I think Americans are really ready for a leader that will give them a great hope about the future.

Perry also explained to NBC that he could convince Republicans that he could win in 2016, that he had plenty of support from potential backers who “are pouring in here to sit down with us, to talk to us.”

The policy individuals that have said ‘listen, we want to come help you become even better prepared as we go forward’ is already the answer to that.

Of course, there is still the issue of that pesky indictment to get through as well, but most legal experts expect that to take years to resolve.

While Perry himself and most conservatives are downplaying that indictment, as we reported back in August, Perry has a lot of reasons to be concerned. He has already been warned in that case about threatening the grand jurors who handed down the indictment, and members of the grand jury have denounced Perry’s “spin” on the indictment.
