U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) has been speaking out against the pending Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade promotion authority bill since its inception.
He thoroughly destroyed the legislation while speaking on Friday April 10, 2015 in Santa Monica, California, calling the bill “the fast track to hell.”
In the clip, below, Grayson explains that:
The Fast Track legislation that the Trade Representative is putting out…does some interesting things.
First of all it prevents any amendments by any sub-committee or any committee in Congress.
Secondly: It prevents any hearings. You’re not allowed to have any hearings in any committee or sub-committee.
Third: You’re not allowed to have any changes to the bill even when it’s on the floor – okay – the floor of the Senate – the floor of the House.
Fourth: You’re not allowed to have any filibusters.
Fifth: It gives us this much opportunity to debate: Each member of Congress – including “Yours Truly” – each member of Congress gets eighty-eight seconds – eighty-eight seconds to debate whatever trade agreements the President presents to us.
