How The Democratic Debate Bested The Republican Ones

Debate-Comparison

The first Democratic Debate aired last night on CNN with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, former Virginia Sen. Jim Webb and former Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee in attendance. The moderators were CNN anchors Anderson Cooper and Don Lemon, political correspondent Dana Bash and CNN en Espanol anchor Juan Carlos Lopez.

So far, the Republicans have held two debates, the first of which, the Fox News debate, aired on August 5, 2015 and included real estate mogul Donald Trump, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich. The moderators were Fox News anchors Bret Baier, Megyn Kelly and Chris Wallace.

The second Republican debate was aired by CNN on September 16, 2015 and included all the above candidates with the addition of Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina. The moderators were Washington correspondents Jake Tapper and Dana Bash and conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt.

So how did the debate topics compare?

As Newsweek reported: the Democratic Debate “conversation covered gun control, economic inequality, Glass-Steagall and Middle East relations at length. Unlike the last two Republican presidential candidate debates, abortion, Planned Parenthood and Kim Davis weren’t up for discussion.”

Martin O’Malley compared the two experiences in the middle of the debate, stating: “On this stage you didn’t hear anyone denigrate women, you didn’t hear anyone make racist comments about new American immigrants, you didn’t hear anyone speak ill of another American because of their religious beliefs.”

Liberals Unite friend and supporter James Reader, the Editor-in-Chief at Reverb Press and founder of The Everlasting GOP Stoppers Facebook page, may have put it best when he posted:

And there you have it, folks. One party talking respectfully with one another like adults, about serious issues that affect the entire planet.

Or the other, a clown car of ignorant bigots, talking down to each other, ginning up fear and misogyny, pounding the drums of war, and ostracizing anyone who chooses to love the same sex or wears a f*cking headscarf.

Not that any of this shit is important or anything.
