Iowa voters to get one last in-depth look at the Democratic candidates prior to the caucuses.
With the kick off of primary voting less than two weeks away, things have gotten tight in the Democratic race. Bernie Sanders is trailing Hillary Clinton by a mere two points in a statistical dead heat in Iowa and leading her by double digits in New Hampshire.
With only four debates, three of which were scheduled on weekends, Democrats have been hindered in their ability to get their messages out to a wider audience. Sunday night’s debate was the last before the all-important Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire Primary. Meanwhile, Republican candidates have dominated the news with an abundance of well-scheduled, well-viewed debates in a sideshow worthy of Barnum and Bailey.
Enter CNN and Drake University in partnership with the Iowa Democratic Party. Voters who may not have seen the candidates state their positions will have the opportunity to hear them out on Monday night, January 25, at 9 p.m. eastern a week before the Iowa caucuses. The two-hour event will be hosted by Chris Cuomo.
“With this event airing just one week before the first-in-the-nation Iowa caucuses, it’s an incredible opportunity for Iowans to see our candidates detail their plans to move our country forward and their vision for Iowa and the nation,” Iowa Democratic Party chair Andy McGuire told CNN.
Finally, a chance for the Democratic candidates to be seen and heard on a weeknight instead of a holiday weekend opposite some big sporting event. What will they think of next?
