Trump’s Answer To Trade Problems – Send China And Mexico A Letter

Trump-Cease-Desist

Donald Trump want to solve foreign trade problems by sending letters to China and Mexico.

Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump has a solution to the nation’s trade problems with China, Mexico and Japan.

Known for his many bankruptcies, Trump’s plan to deal with what he considers to be unfair trade practices is to send these countries a cease and desist letter.

Asked by MSNBC’s Anderson Cooper during Thursday’s Republican Town Hall about such a  possibility, Trump responded that he would send the equivalent of cease and desist letters to China and Mexico to stop “ripping off” the U.S.

What is a cease and desist order? Black’s Law Dictionary defines it as follows:

In law it is an order to prohibit starting or continuing a specific action stated in the order. Used against a person or an enterprise; usually issued by a court or a government agency. 2. In finance it is an order to stop starting or continuing activities that may not be legal. Begun with the implementation of the Financial Institutions Regulator Act of 1978, this order is issued by a court or government agency. The order is meant to allow parties an opportunity to be heard during a hearing. Often, it is used to prevent practice of risky banking procedures.

Of course, the immediate thought that comes to mind involves his lack of success with prior legal actions.

For instance there are the “7 times Trump has sued (or threatened to sue) over his wealth and brand.” Trump either lost or failed to follow through with his threats to sue in 6 of 7 of those instances to include his threats to sue Bill Maher “for failing to live up to an ‘unconditional offer’ made on NBC’s Tonight Show to donate $5 million to charity if Trump provided a copy of his birth certificate proving that he’s not ‘spawn of his mother having sex with orangutan.'” He eventually withdrew his lawsuit.
