Before Robo-Rubio Short-Circuited Megatron-Mitch Suffered A Malfunction – Video

Megatron-Mitch

Megatron-Mitch McConnell short-circuited years before there was a Robo-Rubio.

Republican establishment candidate Marco Rubio has been in the media spotlight ever since he short-circuited and began repeating the same memorized talking points during the February 2nd Republican presidential debate. Making matters worse, Rubio repeated the whole affair at a New Hampshire campaign rally the following Monday.

Noting that Rubio is “now facing growing calls to release his birth certificate to quiet claims he was constructed from the ground up in the basement of a Miami-Dade County Best Buy,” Elliot Hannon wrote a hilarious and cutting piece for Slate on the affair, offering some advice for Rubio’s campaign staff regarding possible solutions to the problem.

However Rubio was not the first Republican to suffer from the syndrome. The same thing happened to then-Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) back in in April of 2013 when he he repeated himself nearly word-for-word 3 times in a failed attempt to avoid questions from reporters.

At the time, McConnell was being questioned by reporters about his campaign’s plans to attack Ashley Judd as revealed earlier in the day in a report by Mother Jones. In response, McConnell began repeating accusations about “Nixonian” wiretaps and whimpering about some leftist conspiracy regarding his wife’s ethnicity.

The question at issue centers around a secret recording from February of McConnell and his aides discussing how they can attack actor Ashley Judd who was considered a potential 2014 challenger to McConnell at the time the recording was made. The tape raised serious ethics questions for McConnell and his staff as Senate ethics rules prohibit Senate employees from participating in any political activities while on the clock, or otherwise receiving government compensation.

As reported by Mother Jones, “the tape indicates that several of McConnell’s legislative aides, whose salaries are paid by the taxpayer, were involved with producing the opposition research on Judd that was discussed at the February 2 meeting.”
