Women In Sports Face Online Harassment: ‘I Hope A Hockey Player Beats You To Death’ – VIDEO

Real-Guys

Men recite threatening tweets sent to women in sports.

Julie DiCaro and Sarah Spain earn their living writing about sports. But there’s a problem. They’re women. This means they receive an inordinate amount of loathsome and threatening harassment from depraved Twitter trolls. Everything from name-calling to rape and death threats.

The women appeared in a video where some nice guys read the tweets aloud to them. The men were so upset by the tweets, they had a difficult time reading them out loud. Many of the guys held back tears.

DiCaro is a rape survivor. One online troll tweeted, “I hope you get raped again.” Other tweets include: “I hope a hockey player beats you to death,” and tweets directed at Spain include, “I hope your boyfriend beats you,” and “Sarah Spain is a self-important know-it-all c*nt.” There was also “F** this dumb c*nt.”

DiCaro told Jezebel the men in the video had not been briefed. “The guys in the video are just random guys who thought they were being recruited to do a Kimmel-esque ‘Mean Tweets’ reading with local reporters. They had no idea what they were about to read. These are random tweets Sarah and I pulled from our mentions.”

The two women have paired up to host the podcast, Just Not Sports, in an effort to expose the online threats and harassment they face simply because they’re women.
