5 Reasons Conservative Close-Minded People Annoy Me
What’s on my mind? I’ll tell you.
I am so f*cking sick and tired of big mouthed, closed minded people that live in a perfect world bubble where the rest of us can only imagine penetrating, if we are lucky, while they sit at their keyboards spewing ignorance and hate as if it is truth across social media, so I have a list of things I’d like to clarify for these people.
1. Unless your family’s veins are flowing Native American Indian blood … you are an immigrant!
(a) Seriously, did you really have childhood dreams of picking fruit in fields, cleaning toilets or wiping other people’s kids butts?
(b) Want to fix immigration, turn Catalina Island into Ellis Island West, problem solved
2. Welfare, Food Stamps and Medicare … Do you really think these people want to be indigent?
(a) Is there abuse, you bet your ass, but no more (and probably less) than there is on Wall Street or with any elected official, how about we start at the top and work our way down and call it ‘Trickledown Fraud’
(b) But maybe you want to look at it a different way: Do you think the $99 a month you pay for your insurance policy actually covers your full costs if g-d forbid you’re in a major accident, house burns down or you get sick? ‘But that money comes from the insurance company,’ and do you know where they get their money? That’s right, from everyone else that is paying their monthly premium because insurance companies bank on people not needing to cash in on their insurance policy and profit off of it; but when they do, bet your ass you haven’t paid nearly as much as you would have needed to; so they dip into the community pool of payments.
3. ObamaCare … making the insurance industry create reasonably priced healthcare for everyone, how can keeping people alive and well be bad?
(a) ‘How dare you make it a law forcing me to buy something I don’t want or need, it’s against my rights!’, really? What day is your auto insurance payment due again? ‘Well, um well, that’s only in case I have an accident’ – so you plan your illnesses?
(b) But I couldn’t keep my policy! Well, the new regulations prove your policy was shit to begin with and you were paying for nothing more than that shiny insurance card in your wallet
(c) But now I need to cover all my employees! Hmmmm…you’ll actually have to do math here, but if an uninsured employee has to leave work for long-term medical attention, hiring and training a new employee is very expensive, undermining profitability; so, financially, it’s more beneficial to your profit margin to want to keep the ones you have healthy
4. Gay marriage … allowing all citizens the same right to enter into a social ritual recognized union or legal contract that establishes rights and obligations between them, between them and their children, and between them and their in-laws, what part of their love is any of your f*cking business?
(a) Would it surprise you to know that, while marriage has been around since the beginning of time, Interracial marriage in the United States has only been fully legal in all 50 states since 1967? Have we not evolved that much in 49 yrs?
(b) And, if you think about it, the main argument against it ‘gays will ruin the institution’ isn’t a very sturdy one because, let’s face it, with a 50% divorce rate, it’s pretty apparent that heterosexuals and reality stars have already done that, but the design, hair care and fashion institutes are all flourishing with them in it; not a coincidence!
5. Cannabis (Medical Marijuana) “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet” .. If this plant is naturally grown, has been used since ancient times and can help people, how did it become illegal in the first place?
Well, just after the Mexican Revolution, while there was an influx of immigration from Mexico, they brought with them their customs – one of which was the use of cannabis as a medicine and relaxant. They referred to this plant as “marihuana”. While Americans were very familiar with “cannabis,” because it was present in almost all tinctures and medicines available at the time, the word “marihuana” was a foreign term. So, when the media began to play on the fears that the public had about these new citizens by falsely spreading claims about the “disruptive Mexicans” with their dangerous native behaviors, including marihuana use, the rest of the nation did not know that this “marihuana” was a plant they already had in their medicine cabinets.
The demonization of the cannabis plant was an extension of the demonization of the Mexican immigrants. In an effort to control and keep tabs on these new citizens, El Paso, TX borrowed a play from San Francisco’s playbook, which had outlawed opium decades earlier in an effort to control Chinese immigrants. The idea was to have an excuse to search, detain and deport Mexican immigrants.
That excuse became marijuana.
This method of controlling people and their customs was quite successful, so much so that it became a national strategy for keeping certain populations under the watch and control of the government.
During hearings on marijuana law in the 1930’s, claims were made about marijuana’s ability to cause men of color to become violent and solicit sex from white women. This imagery became the backdrop for the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937, which effectively banned its use and sales.
And WOW, just like that, it’s all tied together; imagine that!
The bottom line is: you don’t know everyone’s story and, regardless of your race, nationality, sexual orientation, day you take out the trash or have your nails done – just like you – everyone else is just trying to do their best in this crazy world, fighting to stay alive and trying to find their own happiness, which may not mirror yours, but that doesn’t make it wrong – just wrong for you – and that’s what makes you a fabulous f*cking individual!
