The Family Of The Man Who Invented The AR-15, M-16 Says He Would Be ‘Horrified’

The family of the inventor of the AR-15/M-16 speak out.

It’s likely one of the best-known and most-talked about weapons out there right now, and sales are going nuts after Orlando. (Yay, Amurr’ca?)

The family of Eugene Stoner, inventor of the AR-15 and M-16 assault-style rifles, was asked by NBC what he might think if he saw how his invention was being used today. Their response?

Our father, Eugene Stoner, designed the AR-15 and subsequent M-16 as a military weapon to give our soldiers an advantage over the AK-47. He died long before any mass shootings occurred. But, we do think he would have been horrified and sickened as anyone, if not more by these events.

It feels like that’s kinda critical to the conversation happening right now across the world about these weapons, no?

The Stoner family further explained,

After many conversations with him, we feel his intent was that he designed it as a military rifle … [he was] focused on making the most efficient and superior rifle possible for the military.

It will be interesting to see if the NRA discounts this statement from the family of someone who is likely a saint to them. Watch:
