‘No Means No’ – ‘Rape’ Perfectly Defined

Yes-Means-Yes

The perfect explanation for men who can not or will not get the concept that “no means no.”

As it turns out, the concept of “no means no” eludes the comprehension of many men.

NPR reports they are concerned that the “no means no” standard brings “ambiguity into investigations of sexual assault cases.” California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) signed SB-967 into law in September 2014 making it the first state in the nation that “created a clear definition of when people agree to have sex.”

The new law – which applied a “Yes Means Yes” standard – “seeks both to improve how universities handle rape and sexual assault accusations and to clarify the standards, requiring an ‘affirmative consent’ and stating that consent can’t be given if someone is asleep or incapacitated by drugs or alcohol,” according to NPR.

“Lack of protest or resistance does not mean consent,” the law states, “nor does silence mean consent. Affirmative consent must be ongoing throughout a sexual activity and can be revoked at any time.”

Dissatisfied with the number of men who still cannot seem to grasp the concept of “consent,” Twitter user Nafisa Ahmed  published a series of tweets this August attempting to explain it, using five simple analogies.

She offered the following explanation in an introductory tweet:
