Paul Ryan Abandons Trump – Video

Paul Ryan tells House GOP members that he will not defend Trump.

House Speaker Paul Ryan announced on Monday that he will no longer be defending Donald Trump or campaigning with him and will be focusing instead on down ballot races and protecting congressional majorities.

NBC News reports that “The move comes as GOP leaders have not only distanced themselves from the Republican nominee following a leaked 2005 tape of Trump bragging about groping and kissing women without their consent, but have also rescinded their endorsements.”

“You all need to do what’s best for you in your district,” Ryan told fellow House Republicans during a conference call.

Ryan spokesperson AshLee Strong said that: “The speaker is going to spend the next month focused entirely on protecting our congressional majorities.”

However, an unnamed House Republican said that Ryan made it clear on the call that this did not mean he was unendorsing Trump.

Trump hit back with a tweet, posting that: “Paul Ryan should spend more time on balancing the budget, jobs and illegal immigration and not waste his time on fighting Republican nominee.”
