Kanye West’s announcement – during a Thursday concert – was met with both boos and cheers.
Rapper Kanye West was met with a mix of boos and cheers during a concert Thursday night, when he announced to the crowd that he would have voted Donald Trump, if he had, in fact, voted.
“I said something that was kind of politically correct (sic),” West told listeners during a concert in San Jose, California. “I told y’all I didn’t vote, right?”
“What I didn’t tell you…If I were to have voted, I would have voted on (sic) Trump,” West added.
West blamed the Internet for distorting the state of the 2016 race between Trump and Hillary Clinton into an echo chamber. “Echoing is what made people think Hillary was going to win,” he said during the performance. “You thought because what the Internet was telling you, that she was going to win.”
I’m not sure questioning the intelligence of your fans is a good tactic, but it has worked for Trump.
Ironically, West played during a Democratic National Committee fundraiser in San Francisco last month, during which President Obama gave a speech.
The American people have something to look forward to, though. West had announced during the 2015 MYV Video Awards that he would be throwing his hat into the ring and running for president in 2020. He reconfirmed that during the concert Thursday night, stating that he would be a “different type of president.”
Considering that it would mean electing an egocentric African American millionaire rapper after four years of Trump’s white supremacy, it certainly would be different.
