Private: State of Florida Issues Recall on Harmful Honda/Acura Airbags

Car accidents injure and fatally wound an obscene amount of people each year. The National Highway Safety Transportation Administration reports that traffic accidents are the leading cause of debilitating injuries in the United States, and the economic loss to society because of these crashes is estimated at more than $230 billion per year.

The clear risk of being injured in a car accident has caused government agencies to raise awareness, pass laws, and strengthen inspections of vehicles, in order to further protect the people while they are on the road.

These stricter guidelines for vehicle inspection are paying off in big ways. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles sent out an alert about certain Honda and Acura car models on Thursday, October 20, 2016.

The government agency discovered that Takata airbag inflators, installed in various 2001-2003 Honda and Acura car models, are not up to code and could be potentially fatal. They were extremely concerned about the apparent deficiencies and sent a message to the media saying, “Urgent notices were sent from DHSMV and Honda/Acura to most affected owners last month and the notices should not be ignored.”

The automakers have agreed that this is a problem and are offering car owners free repairs at any authorized dealers.

If a person wants to see if their car is in need of being recalled, they should look for their vehicle identification number on the driver’s side of the dashboard. A person’s VIN can be confirmed for recall status by going to www.recalls.honda.comwww.recalls.acura.com, or www.safecar.gov.

If their car is included in the recall, they can go to www.recalls.acura.com or www.recalls.honda.comto find an authorized dealer who will fix the problem free of charge.

Clearwater personal injury attorney Peter Tragos commented, “It is important that residents in the Tampa Bay area recognize the seriousness of this recall and take appropriate action to ensure that they and their passengers are safe.”

Driving a car is already dangerous enough, and a person should make sure that they are doing everything they can to help minimize that risk.
