Sarah Silverman and Bernie Sanders talk about the future of America.
Sarah Silverman and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders sat down together for an hour to talk candidly about the 2016 election, the direction of the Democratic Party, American values, Donald Trump, and a variety of other topics.
The interview begins with Silverman asking if the “Democratic Party has drifted from it’s core mission as the voice of the working class …” and asks if that’s “why we got our smug smiles off our faces on Election Day?” Bernie replied with “Yes. The short answer is absolutely yes.”
He goes on to talk about how much time elected officials spend on raising money for campaigning instead of talking to, and working for, their constituents. He noted that he wasn’t condemning Democrats, he just pointed out what has happened to American politics and why we need to get back to real governing if we’re ever going to see real progress.
Another point Sanders made was that progressives stand up against racism, sexism and other civil rights issues but not enough of them stand up to big oil and Wall Street. He reminds us that voters overwhelmingly want a progressive agenda, “…pay equity for women, raise the minimum wage, they want the rich to start paying their fair share of taxes, they want their kids to be able to go to public colleges and universities, tuition-free …”
What’s so great about this is, that while they talk about very serious issues, but they do so with some much needed humor.
As mentioned it’s about an hour long, so if you’re busy at the moment, bookmark it and watch when you can. It’s worth it.
