Trump caught telling another bold-faced lie, this time about the Director of National Intelligence.
Donald Trump tweeted out a falsehood, a lie, something that isn’t true on Thursday morning saying the Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper, called him “to denounce the false and fictitious report that was illegally circulated.”
Trump was referring to the CNN bombshell report that claims Russia has compromising information on him.
James Clapper called me yesterday to denounce the false and fictitious report that was illegally circulated. Made up, phony facts.Too bad!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 12, 2017
Clapper had this to say about the call in a statement: “the IC has not made any judgment that the information in this document is reliable, and we did not rely upon it in any way for our conclusions.”
Clapper never said the report is false. Here is is full statement (emphasis mine) :
“This evening, I had the opportunity to speak with President-elect Donald Trump to discuss recent media reports about our briefing last Friday. I expressed my profound dismay at the leaks that have been appearing in the press, and we both agreed that they are extremely corrosive and damaging to our national security.
We also discussed the private security company document, which was widely circulated in recent months among the media, members of Congress and Congressional staff even before the IC became aware of it. I emphasized that this document is not a U.S. Intelligence Community product and that I do not believe the leaks came from within the IC. The IC has not made any judgment that the information in this document is reliable, and we did not rely upon it in any way for our conclusions. However, part of our obligation is to ensure that policymakers are provided with the fullest possible picture of any matters that might affect national security.
President-elect Trump again affirmed his appreciation for all the men and women serving in the Intelligence Community, and I assured him that the IC stands ready to serve his Administration and the American people.”
The damning “kompromat” report includes all kinds of salacious details including an alleged story that video exists of Trump watching Russian prostitutes urinating on a bed at a Russian Ritz Carlton. That information has not been verified and may be fabricated, however the Independent published an article titled, “A dossier full of sex, money and blackmail – and one that US and British officials do not think is a hoax.“
On a BBC radio program Wednesday, Washington correspondent Paul Wood said that the British intelligence operative who compiled the “kompromat” report isn’t the only one has compromising information on Trump: “I saw the report, compiled by the former British intelligence officer, back in October. He is not, and this is the crucial thing, the only source for this.”
Journalists and bloggers must be careful with words, because if we see “Donald Trump lied” over and over, the public becomes numb to it. But here is a case where Donald Trump told a bold-faced lie about the director of National Security and put words in James Clapper’s mouth!
