When others said it would never happen, filmmaker Michael Moore warned that Trump could win the presidential election. Moore now sees Trump and senior advisor Steve Bannon as something far more dangerous.
When Trump said he wanted to blow up the system, he meant it literally.
On Tuesday, Moore tweeted,
If you're still trying to convince yourself that a 21st century coup is not underway, please, please snap out of it https://t.co/uAz7o4BsvD

But the defining moment for Mr. Bannon came Saturday night in the form of an executive order giving the rumpled right-wing agitator a full seat on the “principals committee” of the National Security Council — while downgrading the roles of the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the director of national intelligence, who will now attend only when the council is considering issues in their direct areas of responsibilities. It is a startling elevation of a political adviser, to a status alongside the secretaries of state and defense, and over the president’s top military and intelligence advisers.
Moore is not alone in seeing a quiet coup emerging through the Trump administration’s actions. During his first week in office, a stream of highly controversial and un-American executive orders, have sparked nationwide protests. Those EO’s are reported to have been drafted by Bannon.
CNN’s Van Jones tweeted,
This is no longer "left v right." The #Resistance is now a pro-democracy movement against a would-be authoritarian regime. Dems & GOP unite!

An unofficial Twitter account from inside the White House, @RoguePOTUSStaff, uses the hashtag
#UnholyTrinity to describe Pence, Priebus and Ryan as major players in a power struggle to manipulate Trump. They, too, see Bannon as a threat.
Seismic shifts occurring in WW – Bannon almost fully in control. This wknd just the start. Big things coming. #UnholyTrinity iced out.

In The Atlantic, David Frum writes,
The United States is of course a very robust democracy. Yet no human contrivance is tamper-proof, a constitutional democracy least of all….
Perhaps the better question about Trump is not “What is he?” but “What will he do to us?”…
By all early indications, the Trump presidency will corrode public integrity and the rule of law—and also do untold damage to American global leadership, the Western alliance, and democratic norms around the world… Yet exactly how much damage is allowed to be done is an open question… for its answer will be determined by the answer to another question: What will you do?
There are millions of voices sounding the alarm about Trump, Bannon, and the #UnholyTrinity of Pence, Priebus and Ryan. Protests can be a powerful weapon in a democracy. Yet it is that very same democratic power that a Trump, Bannon coup seems eager to dismantle.
Lets not forget that it was voters who gave these people the power they are now wielding so dangerously, and it is only voters who can take it away.
With less than 2 years to go before the 2018 mid-terms, it’s not an overstatement to say that the next election could determine whether the United States remains a beacon of freedom, or falls victim to the ignorance that hands control to a dictatorship.
