Steve Bannon v. Jared Kushner: A dueling White House. What could go wrong?
According to Politico, Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner helped push Steve Bannon out of the National Security Council. Kushner, who has been described as a “onetime New York Democrat,” has complained that [hard-right nationalist] Bannon’s desire to deconstruct the government is hurting Trump.
Axios’ Jonathan Swan reported that after losing his NSC seat, Bannon has been telling allies that he “loves a gun fight,” and he’ll keep fighting what he views as the “globalist” wing of the White House — in other words, the Kushner wing.
Swan’s sources say the Kushner “wing” thinks Bannon and his team are “clinically nuts,” and the “Bannonites believe the liberals staged a coup and will turn Trump into a conventional squish who betrays the very voters who brought him to power.”
It’s getting so ugly that someone close to Bannon hinted that Kushner will soon be the target of damaging leaks that will hurt his public reputation.
The Bannon ally told Swan, “Steve has developed strong and important relationships with some of the most powerful right leaning business leaders. I see some bad press in [Kushner’s] future.”
Just after Bannon, (former executive chair at Breitbart News) was fired from the NSC, Breitbart published four negative stories about Kushner, including the story that Roger Stone, a Bannon and Trump ally, publicly accused Kushner of leaking fake news to MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough.
So much winning, eh?
