If evidence of Trump’s collusion with Russia was caught on tape, it’s only a matter of time before 45’s presidency is over.
Independent journalist and former member of the British Parliament, Louise Mensch, claims that Donald Trump colluded with the Russians and committed treason in his efforts to win the Oval Office. She also claims there’s a tape to prove it. Could she be right? Or is this just a theory the anti-Trump crowd hopes will send 45 to jail?
On April 16, Mensch wrote on Patribotics,
Sources with links to the intelligence community say it is believed that Carter Page went to Moscow in early July carrying with him a pre-recorded tape of Donald Trump offering to change American policy if he were to be elected, to make it more favorable to Putin. In exchange, Page was authorized directly by Trump to request the help of the Russian government in hacking the election.
Mensch has been known to promote conspiracy theories, especially when it comes to the Trump-Russia election hacking scandal. But there could be something to this particular theory, even if Mensch may have twisted some of the details.
According to a CNN report back in March,
The FBI has information that indicates associates of President Donald Trump communicated with suspected Russian operatives to possibly coordinate the release of information damaging to Hillary Clinton’s campaign.
The difference between what Mensch is alleging and what the FBI has admitted seems to be a willingness to take ‘suspected’ evidence to its final conclusion.
It is entirely possible that the FBI does have a tape that proves Trump committed treason by colluding with the Russians to hack the 2016 elections. It is also possible that they don’t; and, at this point, proof-positive has not been made public.
What no one is denying is that there’s a lot of “smoke” surrounding the Trump administration and its connection to Russian influence. And that ‘smoke’ continues to thicken.
On Monday, the Washington Post reported,
The FBI obtained a secret court order last summer to monitor the communications of an adviser to presidential candidate Donald Trump, part of an investigation into possible links between Russia and the campaign…
The FBI and the Justice Department obtained the warrant targeting Carter Page’s communications after convincing a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court judge that there was probable cause to believe Page was acting as an agent of a foreign power, in this case Russia…
This is the clearest evidence so far that the FBI had reason to believe during the 2016 presidential campaign that a Trump campaign adviser was in touch with Russian agents.
Since both Mensch and legitimate news organizations are making the same alleged Russian connections to the Trump campaign through Carter Page, this “smoke” could turn out to be the “fire” the White House is so afraid of.
MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow has kept a sharp eye on the Trump-Russia investigation, and her connect-the-dots analysis gives credence to the suggestion that it’s only a matter of time before Trump’s empire comes crumbling down.
