Obama’s Iran Sanctions Relief Extended By Trump Administration In Stunning Reversal

The Trump administration has another stunning reversal on a long-standing campaign promise and policy.

Despite campaigning for two years on reversing Obama’s Iran policy, the Trump administration now says Iran fully complying with the Nuclear deal and extends sanctions relief established by Obama.

In a stunning reversal, the Associate Press reported Wednesday morning that: “The Trump administration has notified Congress that Iran is complying with the terms of the 2015 nuclear deal negotiated by former President Barack Obama, and says the U.S. has extended the sanctions relief given to the Islamic republic in exchange for curbs on its atomic program.

Trump railed against the agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, during the 2016 presidential campaign, tweeting in January 2016 that: “The Iran deal is terrible. Why didn’t we get the uranium stockpile – it was sent to Russia.”

Most recently, on February 2nd he tweeted a warning to Iran: “Iran has been formally PUT ON NOTICE for firing a ballistic missile. Should have been thankful for the terrible deal the U.S. made with them!”

A few minutes later he added: “Iran was on its last legs and ready to collapse until the U.S. came along and gave it a life-line in the form of the Iran Deal: $150 billion.”

The Hill reported later that same day that: “Michael Flynn during a surprise appearance in the White House briefing room on Wednesday vowed a more muscular U.S. response to Iran’s ‘destabilizing behavior across the Middle East.”

Continuing, The Hill reported that “Flynn said Iran ‘continues to threaten U.S. friends and allies in the region’ with a ballistic missile test launch over the weekend and other actions.” Flynn also blamed former President Barack Obama for allowing Iran to become “emboldened.”

“As of today, we are officially putting Iran on notice,” he added.

The next day, Friday morning, Trump tweeted: “Iran is playing with fire – they don’t appreciate how “kind” President Obama was to them. Not me!”

Reuters reported later that day: “Trump plans to impose sanctions on several Iranian entities, seeking to ratchet up pressure on Tehran while crafting a broader strategy to counter what he sees as its destabilizing behavior, people familiar with the matter said on Thursday.”

Trump’s disregard for his campaign promises is well-documented, with Think Progress reporting in late February that he “broke 64 promises in his first month in office;” and, last Wednesday, various news agencies reported his administration reversed itself on three to six policies in less than 24 hours.

However, this reversal is stunning. As an associate posted on Facebook:

The AP is reporting that the trump administration just certified that Iran is complying with the nuclear deal so they extended the sanctions relief. But trump railed against this deal for the past 2 years. It’s almost like everything trump said during the campaign was complete bullshit.

Who could’ve ever predicted that??
