Trump’s EPA Asks Polluters Which Toxins They Want To Dump Into Your Drinking Water Supply

In an unprecedented giveaway to Big Polluters, Trump’s EPA chief, Scott Pruitt, is asking for suggestions on which clean water regulations they’d like to do away with. Apparently, making America ‘great’ means making Americans sick.

An EPA event called a ‘Listening Session’ is scheduled for May 2 and is being touted as an opportunity for the public to add their voice to Trump’s massive environmental deregulation scheme. But it’s not as open to public input as you might think. The EPA’s website states that public access to the ‘Listening Session’ is capped at 150 phone lines, and people have to apply for, and be granted, an invitation.

Common Dreams reported on just how dangerous Trump’s environmental plan is for the entire country.

EWG President Ken Cook said this initiative opens the door for extreme proposals that will benefit water polluters and endanger public health.

This is the official kickoff of the Trump administration’s all-out assault on the safety and integrity of the nation’s drinking water supply,” said Cook. “Pruitt and Trump have cast aside policies to reduce childhood asthma attacks from pollution-spewing coal-fired power plants, and blocked plans to reduce exposure from a pesticide that can harm kids’ brains. Now they’re targeting programs that keep pollution out of our tap water.”

The NRDC called Trump’s assault on public health and the environment, “part of Steve Bannon’s quest for the ‘deconstruction of the administrative state.’

Environmental safeguards protect our health, conserve resources and save lives. The Clean Air Act alone prevents more than 160,000 premature deaths and 1.7 million asthma attacks―every year. The Clean Water Act has dramatically reduced pollution nationally and restored many waterways that were once unsafe for swimming, drinking, or fishing. Yet in a mad-dash effort to serve its new corporate masters, Agency leadership is on the cusp of initiating radical actions that could undo all of this progress.

Unlike other policies that can be reversed without irreparable harm, poisonous chemicals dumped into the drinking water supply can be difficult or impossible to remove. And once people and wildlife start drinking it, it’s too late to undo the damage.

It’s one thing to try to rob American taxpayers of their hard-earned pay with deceptive tax reform schemes that are little more than handouts to billionaires; it’s quite another when you use the power of government to poison people for the benefit of those same billionaires.

This is a fight The Resistance can’t afford to lose, and they are digging in for some tough battles.

But the corporate world’s corrupting influence on Trump and his Koch brothers appointed parasites, are more than a new threat to clean water in communities throughout the country. These people are on a toxic death march that will keep on killing for generations to come.

Trump’s EPA, with pollution-lover Scott Pruitt at the helm, is fulfilling the Republican Party’s long-standing promise to turn over control of U.S. regulatory policy, especially as it relates to the environment, to the corporate vultures who care about nothing but their own bottom line.

According to the New Statesman,

Rather than outright closure of the EPA, its influence and funding are being leached away…. With Pruitt as EPA administrator, the organization may become a caricature of itself… Let us hope that the #resistance movements started by “Rogue” EPA and “Alt” National Parks social media accounts are able to stave off the vultures until there is “Hope” once more.

The swamp-dwellers driving legislation to abolish the EPA are Rep’s. Matt Gaetz (R-Fl), Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga), Thomas Massie, (R-Ky), and Mississippi Republican Steven Palazzo. Their phone numbers are listed here, if you want to call and ask if they’ll be drinking the same toxic water they want you to drink. The number for the Capitol switchboard is 202-224-3121.
