Congress Reaches Funding Deal And Stymies Trump’s Wall

Donald Trump

When you look up the word pathetic in the dictionary, a picture of Donald Trump is the definition.

Well, maybe not, but it oughta be!

On Sunday night, Congress came to an agreement to fund the government through September. The agreement will be voted on this week, averting a government shutdown.

Since Democrats were needed to get the legislation passed, it gives lie to Trump’s latest tweet accusing Democrats of being “the party of obstruction.” It would be amusing if it weren’t so SAD.

Trump’s claim that the Democrats only do what’s good for them and not the people is another example of the malarkey he passes off as truth, which is somewhat different.

“This agreement is a good agreement for the American people, and takes the threat of a government shutdown off the table. The bill ensures taxpayer dollars aren’t used to fund an ineffective border wall, excludes poison pill riders, and increases investments in programs that the middle-class relies on, like medical research, education, and infrastructure.” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY)

“From the beginning, Democrats have sought to avert another destructive Republican Government Shutdown, and we have made significant progress improving the omnibus bill.  We have eliminated more than 160 Republican poison pill riders, ranging from undermining a woman’s right to reproductive health to dismantling Dodd-Frank’s vital Wall Street consumer protections.  The omnibus does not fund President Trump’s immoral and unwise border wall or create a cruel new deportation force.” House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)

Additionally, the funding measure increases funding for the NIH, adds money to combat the opioid epidemic plaguing the country, includes health benefits for coal workers, and includes Medicaid funding for Puerto Rico.

In short: Trump was forced to back off his demand to include the border wall in the funding bill; Planned Parenthood has not been defunded; Obamacare has not been defunded; programs that benefit ordinary citizens have not been eliminated – in fact, programs to help ordinary citizens have been added and/or expanded upon. Despite the optimistic rumblings coming from the White House regarding the second pass at the GOP health care decimation plan, it will go down in flames because legislators from red states want to keep their jobs come 2018.

All of which makes Donald Trump look like the #whineylittlebitch he is.
