Fox News Is Cleaning House: Is Sean Hannity Next?

The personnel shakeup at Fox News is beginning to look more like an earthquake. Will Sean Hannity be the next star to fall?

Following the recent sacking of Bill O’Reilly, who was under a Roger Ailes-like cloud of sexual harassment claims, the future may also be in question for anchorman and right-wing poster child Sean Hannity.

According to Politico,

With Bill Shine out as co-president of Fox News, all eyes have now turned to Sean Hannity, one of the last stars standing from the network’s blockbuster prime time line up.

Monday night, Hannity tweeted out an article denying reports that he was negotiating his exit.

But many Fox insiders said the network remains awash with speculation about Hannity’s future in the wake of Shine’s resignation.

If Hannity leaves, it would be yet another sign that the hard-right feeding frenzy at the center of America’s political divide, may be about to end. And although much of the brouhaha at Fox has been mired in allegations of an embedded culture of sexual harassment, let’s not overlook the fact that the brand of ‘crazy’ they were selling at Fox has outlived its usefulness. Without Obama in the White House, what does Fox have left to feed the red state lunatic fringe?

The Daily Beast suggests another type of shift.

But to some Fox News conservative vets like Hannity, Shine was the remaining bulwark against the Murdoch sons, who are seen as “liberals” trying to radically reinvent the network in the model of a mainstream cable-news rival like CNN.

What? Fox wants to become a ‘real’ news network?

Even if that is part of a bigger plan, it will take more than a few sackings to make that evolution stick. But it’s still a step in the right direction.

If getting rid of O’Reilly and Hannity leads to the end of the right-wing hate that Fox News has been poisoning the electorate with, there may be hope for America after all.
