Trump continues to write on Twitter about “fake news,” but there are currently 4 senate subcommittees looking into Russia’s efforts to push the 2016 election in Trump’s favor.
Earlier, Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), chairman of the Judiciary committee, had not ruled out a senate investigation of President Donald Trump for obstruction of justice in the probe of his campaign associates’ contacts with Russia. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-California) had written Grassley and urged him that the committee look into this. CNN reported today that, after meeting with Special Counsel Robert Mueller, the decision was made to leave obstruction of justice to Mueller.
Panel members that were comprised of both Democrats and Republicans met with Mueller to discuss that their inquiry will focus on the interference of Russia in the 2016 elections and if Trump and/or any of his associates conspired with the Kremlin.
The Hill reported that “Vice Chairman Mark Warner (D-Va.) told CNN that while the intelligence panel will not focus its efforts on Trump’s potential obstruction of justice, it will turn over any evidence it finds related to the matter to the special counsel.” “Obstruction is criminal — there’s a criminal aspect to that,” committee Chairman Sen. Richard Burr, a North Carolina Republican, told CNN Thursday. “It’s never been part of our” investigation.
There are currently 4 senate subcommittees looking into Russia’s efforts to push the 2016 election in Trump’s favor. Media reports indicate that Trump may have asked intelligence officials to issue statements that there was no collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians. The officials, Dan Coats (Director of National Intelligence) and Admiral Michael Rogers (Director National Security Agency – NSA), reportedly refused to do so.
Trump continues insist through Twitter (his favorite means of communication) that this is “fake news” and a hoax. Reuters reported Thursday that after a report that he (Trump) was under investigation for possible obstruction of justice, Trump dismissed it as “phony” .”They made up a phony collusion with the Russians story, found zero proof, so now they go for obstruction of justice on the phony story. Nice,” Trump wrote on Twitter, later repeating his accusation that the probe is a “witch hunt.”
My mother used to threaten to wash my mouth out with soap if I lied. Maybe Mueller should do the same with Trump.
