Time Magazine Tells Trump To Remove Fake Cover From His Golf Resorts

Photograph of a Time Magazine with Trump on the cover hangs in his golf clubs – just one problem – it’s fake!

Donald Trump has a Time Magazine cover featuring him hanging in several of his properties. The heading on the cover is: “Donald Trump: The ‘Apprentice’ is a television smash!”  Then over the Times logo was printed “TRUMP IS HITTING ON ALL FRONTS . . . EVEN TV!” in all caps. The issue is dated March 1, 2009.

At first glance it looks like the real thing. Golfers sitting in Trump’s golf courses get the idea that Trump was a successful guy before he became president–he even landed on the cover of Time. Except, the cover is a fake. Kerri Chyka, a spokeswoman for Time Inc., wrote The Washington Post that the cover was not real. By 5PM Tuesday, Time had demanded that the Trump Organization remove the fake covers where they were on display. Time found that the cover had been in 4 of the 17 properties.

All one has to do is look at the Trump version and then a real cover from Time Magazine. The design is slightly different – a thinner red border without the inner white border, a bar code that is actually for a karaoke DJ software, and a fake date of March 1, 2009. The Trump version features headlines from the actual Time Magazine cover dated March 2, 2009 featuring Kate Winslet.

The bigger question as posed by Gizmodo is who created this fake Trump Cover, and who put it in the Trump Golf Clubs? The Trump Organization did not respond to questions.

The Washington Post covered the story and tweeted the real cover next to the fake Trump one:
