Powerhouse actors Rob Reiner and Morgan Freeman are declaring “war” on Russia.
CIRs first video features a calm, measured Freeman addressing Americans:
“We have been attacked. We are at war.”
The Oscar winning actor urges all Americans, no matter their political ideologies, to look with clear eyes at Russia’s interference in the 2016 U.S. election;, and he says Vladimir Putin is trying to undermine the country’s government and values.
“Imagine this movie script,” Freeman says, and then goes on to describe Putin’s rise from KGB spy of a superpower to the dictator of a former superpower who’s “angry at the collapse of his motherland, plots a course for revenge.”
Freeman describes how Putin used social media to coordinate cyber attacks against the United States — which intelligence agencies believe was a carefully executed Russian plan to elect Donald Trump, “We need our president to speak directly to us and tell us the truth,” he says.
The goal, Freeman says, is to create chaos and distrust of government. He explains that Trump needs to sit at his desk in the Oval Office and say to the nation:
My fellow Americans, during this past election, we came under attack by the Russian government. I’ve called on Congress and our intelligence community to use every resource available to conduct a thorough investigation to determine exactly how this happened.
Freeman further explained that Putin used hackers and disinformation experts to take advantage of Americans’ divisions already in place and to make them “distrust their media, their political processes, even their neighbors. And he wins.”
Despite the current investigation by special counsel Mueller, Freeman never accuses Trump of any involvement in the Russian interference; however, he does call on Trump to acknowledge the gravity of what was accomplished by Putin and his regime and to use “every resource available to conduct a thorough investigation to determine exactly how this happened.”
