Australian comedian Jim Jefferies points out the ridiculous relationship between Americans and their guns.
In his 2014 Netflix special, Jefferies explained he was a victim of a terrifying attack in his home in Manchester, England. He was tied up while the attackers threatened to rape his girlfriend. That experience didn’t make him pro-gun. In fact, it made him realize that if he’d had a gun, it wouldn’t have saved him or his girlfriend, “I was naked at the time. I wasn’t wearing my holster.”
Jefferies said he’s all for the 2nd Amendment rights, but what he’s against is “bullshit arguments and lies.”
He continued, “There is one argument and one argument alone for having a gun. And this is the argument: F*ck off. I like guns.” He said “It’s not the best argument, but it’s all you’ve got.”
Jefferies insisted America’s reaction to gun violence is ridiculous:
In Australia, we had the biggest massacre on earth, and the Australian government went: “That’s it! NO MORE GUNS.” And we all went, “Yeah, all right then, that seems fair enough, really.”
Now in America, you had the Sandy Hook massacre, where little tiny children died. And your government went, “Maybe … we’ll get rid of the big guns?” And 50 percent of you went, “F*CK YOU, DON’T TAKE MY GUNS.”
Jefferies mocked the idea that Americans buy guns for protection and stressed that they just like and enjoy having guns, not because they really believe they’re protecting themselves or their families:
You have guns because you like guns! That’s why you go to gun conventions; that’s why you read gun magazines! None of you give a shit about home security. None of you go to home security conventions. None of you read Padlock Monthly. None of you have a Facebook picture of you behind a secure door.
He also points out that American culture is fearful and paranoid:
By the way. Most people who are breaking into your house just want your fucking TV! You think that people are coming to murder your family? How many fucking enemies do you have?
