Reuters is reporting that former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon is scheduled to testify before the House Intelligence Committee next Tuesday regarding Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
It is not yet known whether or not Bannon’s testimony will be made available to the public.
Bannon hired Washington lawyer Bill Burck, a former top White House attorney under President George W. Bush, to help him prepare for the hearing. The Daily Beast reports that Bannon’s hiring of Burck is for the sole purpose of the hearing and is not related to the FBI investigation headed by Special Counsel Robert Mueller.
From the Daily Beast:
Until recently, Bannon had largely avoided becoming publicly ensnared in the Russia investigation. But behind the scenes, Bannon sought to play a role in Team Trump’s handling of the issue. He privately advised the president in October to get more aggressive in fighting back against Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, and urged Trump to hire new lawyers.
Burck also represents White House counsel Don McGahn and former White House chief of staff Reince Priebus.
Last month, The House Intelligence Committee requested meetings with both Bannon and former Trump campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski. Bannon was working as Trump’s chief strategist when the president fired then FBI Director James Comey last year.
The former chief strategist left the White House last August and was recently let go as chairman of Breitbart News after salacious details of the new, explosive book Fire and Fury came out earlier this week.
