A business with costs similar those of the 1960s would no longer be profitable. The rewards of higher efficiency go primarily to the consumer via the downward spiral of prices.

I worked for minimum wage for 7 years, so I definitely feel for people in that situation. However, I don’t believe that wages are exempt from supply and demand. Higher prices for labor will reduce demand for labor. How significant that is overall is open to speculation.

People can’t live on minimum wage without government assistance. If the free market would do it’s part and pay reasonable wages, the government would have a smaller role in providing that assistance.
