General Rules For Calling Articles

Due to dynamics on the pages, we have promulgated some basic posting rules which are as follows:

1) Any news item must be current within the last 16-18 hours tops unless it relates directly to an item that is even more current (typically within the last 0-12 hours). In addition to needing to relate directly to a current news item, there has to be sufficient information that an old piece contributes to the dialogue AND the must be sufficient interest in the topic to dredge up old articles.

2) In very broad terms, and at our discretion, items over six months  old are free game for posting so long as there is sufficient reason to believe it could spark renewed interest because the item is either timeless in nature, or relates directly to a current news event that is of wide interest.

a) An example of a timeless piece could be something like an interesting George Carlin routine about politics, etc.

b) An example of a piece relevant to a current new items would be us posting the video of an 11-year-old giving a TED Talk relevant to GMO’s and Monsanto the weekend of the Monsanto protests.

If you have something and you are not sure about it, then please feel free to submit it and see what happens. On a slow news week, something might get through that ordinarily would not be posted.

PROCEDURES: – Calling And Publishing Articles:

  • Go to the writers’ page and call any article you are writing if it is based on current events, or anything you think someone else might write about. This is to prevent 2 or more people from writing about the same subject as only 1 article will ultimately be published.
  • If the news item is breaking and/or time sensitive it should be completed within 2 hours of calling it unless otherwise directed.
  • Upon completion of the article, set its status to PENDING1 and put up a post in the writers’ page advising you have something in pending. IMPORTANT: blue link me, Kimberley A. Johnson (https://www.facebook.com/authorkimberley) and Ed Lynn (https://www.facebook.com/edlynn) in the post.
