Jimmy Carter discusses his belief that religion is one of the ‘basic causes’ of violations of women’s rights worldwide.

Former President of the United States, Nobel Peace Laureate and veteran peace negotiator Jimmy Carter has dedicated his life to the advancement of democracy, peace and health across the globe.

As part of his worldwide efforts, Jimmy Carter works as an Elder:

Chaired by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, The Elders is an independent group of global leaders who work together for peace and human rights. They were brought together in 2007 by [the late] Nelson Mandela, who [was] not an active member of the group but remain[ed] an Honorary Elder. The Burmese pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi was also an Honorary Elder, until her election to the Burmese parliament in April 2012.  SOURCE
