U.S. Congressman accuses the NSA, FBI and CIA of lying and straight up admits that he is working against the U.S. intelligence services.
The Wall Street Journal reported last week that Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) contacted White House Chief of Staff John Kelly in a phone call “apparently aimed at resolving the probe of WikiLeaks… through a pardon or other act of clemency from President Donald Trump.”
Rohrabacher spoke with the Washington Examiner about the Wall Street Journal, claiming that someone leaked the information about the call in an apparent effort to derail his negotiations on behalf of Wikileaks and Assange.
He also admitted to the Washington Examiner that he was working against un-named United States intelligence services and went on to claim that the NSA, FBI and CIA are lying about hacked emails published by WikiLeaks during the contentious 2016 US presidential election.
“I have honored the confidential[it]y of a very important business-related call,” he told the Washington Examiner last Friday, adding that: “I don’t know who it is, all I know is I’m up against an array of very powerful forces, including the intelligence services and major newspapers that are basically allied with the liberal Left who have every reason to undermine communication on this issue.”
Continuing, he added that: “there are very powerful forces at work. We’ve got the NSA, the FBI and the CIA, all of whom confirmed a major lie that was being used for political purposes and a lie that was repeated and repeated in order to undercut our new president.”
Caroline O., @RVAwonk, who describes herself as a”feminist, scientist, statistics professor and a health equity & racial justice advocate,” picked up on the significance of Rohrabacher’s admission, tweeting:
WOW. Rohrabacher just straight-up said he’s working against US intelligence agencies & accused NSA/FBI/CIA of lying about WikiLeaks.
(You might recall that Caroline O. was the subject of several hostile tweets from Trump’s longtime friend and former campaign advisor Roger Stone during a couple of Twitter tirades in March and April of this year.)
The Orange Country Register reported this week that Rohrabacher has been having quite the year so far when it comes to controversy.
Headlines since July have included meetings with Russian officials, asking a NASA official if there was ever civilization on Mars and for becoming the first congressman to meet with Assange since the controversial figure took refuge in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London in 2012.
Rohrabacher also came under media scrutiny when he claimed that “left wingers” were behind the racially-tinged violence in Charlottesville last month. “It was a setup for these dumb Civil War re-enactors,” Rohrabacher told the San Francisco Chronicle last week.
Fact-checking website Politifact researched that claim and declared it “Pants on Fire” — wholly false.
The Orange Country Register reported that: “Several of Rohrabacher’s Democratic challengers — as well as the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee — quickly jumped on Rohrabacher’s Charlottesville claim,” and DCCC spokesman Drew Godinich stated that:
It is deeply disturbing that Congressman Dana Rohrabacher struggles to identify white nationalists, particularly after their actions in Charlottesville resulted in the death of an American citizen. These views are repugnant. They are un-American. It is 2017, not 1861 … Any member of Congress that hesitates to condemn white supremacists has no business serving in the House of Representatives.
The Orange County Register also reported that this recent backlash of negative news reports could adversely impact his reelection bid:
Rohrabacher’s heightened profile comes at a time when he could receive the first significant challenge to his reelection. His seat has been targeted by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and he’s already drawn nine challengers who have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars.
