Kansas Republicans attempting to remove Obama from state ballot over “birther” concerns

Kansas BirthersAs reported by the Topeka Capital Journal, Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, an informal Romney advisor, said on Thursday he and his fellow members of the State Objections Board were considering removing President Barack Obama from the Kansas ballot this November.

The whole thing started with a ballot challenge filed by Manhatten, Kansas, resident Joe Montgomery,  who said Obama’s “father held British and Kenyan citizenship, making Obama ineligible to run for the nation’s highest office“, citing Supreme Court opinons that he alleges state that a presidential candidate must be a “natural born citizen” from two American citizens.

According to the Capital-Journal “In Montgomery’s written complaint, he declared “there is substantial evidence showing that much of Mr. Obama’s alleged birth certificates have been forged or doctored, and have not been confirmed as legally valid, true and accurate.”

It is noteworthy that Kobach along with Attorney General Derek Schmidt and Lt. Governor Jeff Colyer who serve on the State Objections Board are all Republicans.

Romney advisor trying to remove Obama from Kansas ballotAccording to the Capital-Journal, Kobach stated:

“I don’t think it’s a frivolous objection. I do think the factual record could be supplemented.”

And in keeping with that idea, the State Objections Board determined on Thursday that they lacked sufficient evidence of Pres. Obama’s birth records and delayed any action until Monday pending a review of a copy of Obama’s birth certificate from Hawaii.  Additionally, they have submitted requests to officials in Hawaii, Arizona and Mississippi in an attempt to secure copies of Obama’s birth records.

In emails emails sent to Talking Points Memo late Thurdsday, Koback wrote that more records “could easily be obtained, and should be obtained, from the relevant states before issuing any decision” and went on to add that he might be willing to speak on Monday in regards to his personal opinion as to whether Obama is a natural born U.S. citizen “after the matter is closed”.

I wonder how long it is going to take for them to remember that although George W. Romney was an American citizen, he was born on July 8, 1907 in Colonia Dublan, Galeana, Chihuahua, Mexico which could raise numerous concerns were Republicans to put him and Mitt under the same microscope they seem to want to continue inflicting on President Obama.
